hose bib replacement?
I have several galvanized hose bibs. They leak at the faucet and are very old. I'm afraid that if I try to remove them with tools, that they would break off since they are corroded. I want to know if I could saw off the upper portion and replace those pipes with pvc fittings? Anyone know for sure if galvanized and pvc pipe can be cemented together and not leak. professional advice requested. Thanks
If they only leaks thne try to replace the gasket inside open up the top part where the handle is located but ofcourse you needto shut down your water line first before doing the job.If you really want to replace it then try to remove the old ones using 2 pipe whrench. one will clamp to the coupling connection while the other wrench at the hosebib faucet then apply force to unscrew then install the brass hosebib faucet.If it's not easy to remove the whole thing then just cut it 1" inch close to the coupling connection using hacksaw then the remaining part will be cut too by inserting a hacksaw blade inside the tube of the faucet then start cutting it good enough until from the coupling thread then once it was already cut use a vice grip plier clamp the 1 inch rem aining pipe then start turning until it lose.Good luck
