Garden Faucet Extension

By Andy C.

PVC shatters in the winter! What can I use to add an extention to my outside faucet for my garden hose?

Galvanize pipe is expensive! Is there an inexpensive winter/ all weather PVC I can use, to add a faucet extension to my backyard garden?

My suggestion would be to use a small piece of galvanized pipe to enter and exit the ground, and use schedule 40 PVC pipe underground. Depending on your location, make sure you bury the pipe deep enough to get past the frost line. If depth is a problem, and you can't get it deep enough, use schedule 80 PVC pipe, and insulate even the pipe in the ground. Make sure you use schedule 80 fittings also. Good luck!
